In their second game in 48 hours, Lion looked to extend their excellent run of form and they faced a tough test in the shape of Iron Acton Reserves.
Just like their game midweek, Lion controlled possession early. They looked patient and composed when faced with early pressure from the Iron Action front line. After this short but vitally important spell of methodical possession, Lion began to create chances. Many of these chances came down the Lions right wing, with Mo Rabia having the ‘Lion’s share’ of these chances yet he, as always, refused to shoot.
The mounting pressure from Lion forced the Iron Acton keeper into making a succession of saves. The best of these saves came against now of Lions newer players Ed, the chance came as ed had shot from 6 yards out which the Iron Acton man of the match managed to tip wide.
Despite it looking like Lion could have sealed the game in the first 20 minutes, it was Iron Acton who struck the first blow. What appeared like an innocuous free kick, somehow found the far corner of the Lion goal after the opposition number 9 managed to get a slight touch on the cross.
This left Lion frustrated at half time.
Lion came into the second half determined to put their chances away, and after some substitutions the equaliser came quickly. Jizz sent a low cross in close proximity to the goal in which Ryan Harris managed to bundle home (a running, improvised back heel finish – but if he asks it was a fluke).
Soon after Iron Acton managed to create their second chance of the day, in which their number 10 was sent through on goal who managed to score this chance. Their celebrations were cut short as thanks to Lions excellent defensive line the striker was deemed rightly offside.
This spurred Lion into action, in which they mounted more and more pressure. Lion eventually broke the deadlock after a Lion corner was cleared in which, unfortunately for Iron Acton, fell to the feet of Ryan Robinson who shot from distance and with the help of a slight deflection found the top corner.
Now in the lead for the first time, Lion looked to add to the score. The third goal came after some great one and two touch passes in midfield, which eventually found the feet of Harris. He was looking to add to his goal contribution tally and he did, curling and early cross behind the defence where Ryan placed a controlled side foot volley into the top right corner. A quote from Ryan himself summed up this goal, and his performance up nicely “easy as you like”. After this goal Ryan was swiftly taken off, not being allowed time for a hattrick for the second game in a row. (EDIT BY THE GAFFER: I ALLOWED HIM 3 MINUTES TO COMPLETE HIS HAT-TRICK. HE FAILED)
Lion sealed the game after Joe Galli sent Lions’ answer to the flash Dan Jones down the right wing. Dan blitzed past the Iron Acton fullback before expertly slotting the ball into the side netting.
With Lions fourth goal, the game was sealed. This also sealed Lions fourth win from four games in their new division setting them up for what could be an excellent season.
MOTM: Ryan Harris for his tenacity in minefield, his goal and assist and all the while moaning the entire 90 minutes.
Loser: Ross for informing his mother about some changing room banter that she definitely shouldn’t have known.
